Coldwater Mining and Energy Limited Now Achieving High Purity Battery-Grade Lithium at One of Their Argentinian Projects

Coldwater Mining and Energy Limited recently announced that they are achieving high purity battery-grade lithium at one of their Argentinian projects.

The company announced that it was able to produce lithium carbonate of battery-grade purity from the first batch of brine processed through the company's pilot plant at its northern project in northern Argentina at its Jujuy plant.

Coldwater Mining and Energy Limited said the plant produced lithium carbonate with a purity of over 99.73%, this percentage is greater than the typical battery-grade quality lithium carbonate which must be over 95% purity.

According to the Canadian company, the brine feedstock was derived from their recently upgraded production methods at their site in Jujuy where the company use their own patented machinery to extract brine which is then pumped to holding ponds that concentrate the lithium carbonate by conventional solar evaporation.

Using this new brine extraction process, Coldwater Mining and Energy Limited said it was able to achieve battery-grade quality lithium carbonate at the completion of the basic stage and a premium quality battery-grade at the completion of the purification process.

"The results from this first batch indicate battery-grade lithium carbonate can be produced prior to the CO2 purification stage, and with CO2 purification, we have the potential to produce a superior premium lithium carbonate product which will always command a price premium," said Mr. Paul K. Bettison, Director of Project Management with Coldwater Mining and Energy Limited.

"We have also demonstrated that we now have the ability to produce a high-quality battery-grade product at a lower cost than previously estimated in the company's exploration tests by using this new production technique. We are looking in to the feasibility of upgrading all of our projects to utilize this new production method where possible."

Coldwater Mining & Energy Ltd is a licensed Canadian company which was formed in 1994 with one clear focus, to become, in collaboration with its shareholders, one of the world's most ethical mining companies of lithium carbonate.

They currently operate from 10 sites, in 3 countries, which have a combined total coverage of over 90,000 hectares, and all operate within the IRMA's, (Initiative for Responsible Mining), strict mandate for responsible mining and we abide by the respective local governmental laws.
